Publisher Saber Interactive and developer Twirlbound have unleashed a new trailer for the upcoming 3D adventure game The Knightling, scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch on 28th August 2025.

If you've not got this one on your wishlist yet, then we'd recommend at least keeping a close eye on it as we approach the release date. It looks lovely. There's undeniably some Zelda influence in there, and we love how the protagonist's sheild can be used for close-range combat, long-range combat, and even traversal.

Granted, we're certain the trailer footage is probably from the PS5 or something, and we're particularly hopeful that this one shows up on the Switch 2, but there doesn't seem to be much here that'll push the original Switch too far. Here's hoping, anyway.

Let's take a look at the official synopsis:

When Clesseia’s legendary guardian, Sir Lionstone, mysteriously disappears, it’s up to his plucky squire to take up his magic shield, journey across the realm’s many regions, and become the hero the people need. In today’s new trailer, you’ll see just how quickly and capably your shield will serve you in combat, movement, exploration and more.

Unlock the extraordinary abilities of Sir Lionstone’s trusty bulwark to save the day. Block, bash and parry foes in action-packed battles against mighty monsters and bandits, then jump, slide, dash and glide across the land to discover new locations and master towering platforming challenges.

All heroes start small!

Have you got your eye on this one? What do you make of the new trailer? Let us know with a comment.

Have got this one on my list, releasing a day ahead of the new Shinobi. Certainly looks fun. But will need a couple of reviews and a physical edition please. Switch 1 or 2 ... doesn't really matter. I'll get the cheaper version.

@Anti-Matter for all the talk you do about PS5 I’m not even sure why you hang out at a Nintendo site. 🤯

@BrokenCiv
I just watched the trailer here and when the game get announced for multi consoles including PS5 version, I was excited.
Am I not allowed to choose PS5 version?
I have rights to choose which version I want to play after I watched the trailer.
Just because I watched the trailer on Nintendolife, it doesn't mean I will get everything on Switch version.
I'm very picky for getting 3rd party games now especially when I know 3rd party games on Switch mostly will getting the worst version compared with other machines version.
So the trailer will be my skipping stone for me to consider the PS5 version since I already have PS5 machine.
But it doesn't mean I suddenly forget my Switch games.
I still build my Switch games, but now I'm very selective in choosing the games.
Btw, I play both Nintendo and PlayStation games, I have a lot of games from Nintendo machines and PlayStation machines, so here on Nintendolife I still thinking about Nintendo games, but when talking about 3rd party games, mostly those games will be on my PlayStation area.

Yep, definitely interested in this game - looking forward to seeing/hearing more about it (hopefully including a review here on Nintendo Life) and eventually giving it a try myself!

I am open to more 3D platformers, hoping one gets as good as Mario. AstroBot was great, but I think the closest has been bother BK and Vexx games.

Brings to mind the kind of platformers that came out on the Gamecube and PS2, instant get for me.

@Anti-Matter I'm with you, but instead of "PS5" I get indie games on Steam or GOG when I can.

I play at home exclusively, so why settle for 30fps on Switch when I can get 60fps on my PC?

The game looks pretty good, but I'd release it directly on the Switch 2 if I were them.
It's quite obvious it won't run well on the OG Switch...

That's actually looking pretty good. I hope we get decent fps on good old NS.
Yes I started to say NS for switch since NS2 will be easier than typing switch 2.

Hopefully there's a lot more that's clever we haven't seen yet but it looks on the surface to be very smart. Like a mix of BotW traversal and Captain America shield combat. Put that thing on a chain and you can borrow from Rygar too.

Man I hope this plays as good as it looks. I'm ready for a game like this.

Is the character a duck? or Mask? Looks like a BOTW/TOTK open-world type game.

@Lone_Beagle
True.
I hope The Knightling will get physical release for console version so I can pick the PS5 version for smooth 60 fps and faster loading time.

@Anti-Matter Man, it's OK to prefer the PS5 and it's also OK to get your news fix on a Nintendo-focused outlet, but why? Does it feel good to be a "contrarian"?

@John_Deacon
Well, because the trailer of Knightling only posted on Nintendolife, not on PushSquare so the only way I can watch and react by watching from Nintendolife.
Whichever version of the games I watched from the trailer, if the games are 3rd party and have multi console version, I have rights to get excited on PS5 version if get mentioned from the trailer.
Why I didn't choose the Switch version?
Because I have learnt from my experience of getting a few 3rd party Switch games that have worse performance than PS4 / PS5 version and it made my purchase of Switch version of certain 3rd party games was like a waste of money for getting not so good products.
From that experience, whenever I saw trailer of upcoming 3rd party games and also have multi console version, my choice will be the PlayStation version, not Switch version because I will not spend my money for half baked products.

Also, it just only games, doesn't matter of which version you will get if multi console version are available, why have to get upset for somebody choose the other machine version instead of Switch version ?

Ah yes. The Shield Hero.
Btw, note to editor from person raised by grammar fixator, i generally comes before e, not the other way around, with some weird exceptions.
